Many vintage rifles have a number of colour variations. Some examples may appear translucent. TIG believes the translucent effect is created during the injection moulding process and is a result of an insufficient amount of dye being added to the plastic and/or poorly mixed pigment granules. The translucency can sometimes be visible to the naked eye but is better seen when held to a light source. Although translucent coloured versions are not strictly variants TIG has opted to feature and list some of the known examples.

This repro was issued with the 2015 US Prototype version Vlix. The rifle will sink when placed in water.

Bossk Rifle REPRO Variant 2

This V2 Repro has a thinner 'wedge-shape' below the scope when compared to the V1. It is painted Blue and when the surface is scratched reveals a white plastic underneath.

The Chewbacca bowcaster has three different moulds and appears in dark colours such as blue, green or black or mixtures of these. Many bowcasters are translucent. The translucent effect is created during the injection moulding process and is a result of an insufficient amount of dye being added to the plastic. Many weapons can be found with this effect and the translucency can be visible both to the naked eye and also when held to a light source.

Although the translucent coloured versons are not strictly variants we have listed many of the colours we have seen so far.

There is also a V2 version which has an EPM on the corner of the rifle handle next to the extended arm rest. This can exist in the colours Dark Blue / Black, and Dark Blue (Semi-Translucent) as seen in the photo below.

Chewbacca Bowcaster 1995 Classic Edition 4-Pack POTF2 

In 1995 Kenner released a "Classic Edition" 4-Pack that included re-casts of four of the vintage era figures. Chewbacca was one of these and included was his signature Bowcaster. This version is much more rubbery than any of the original vintage counterparts.

The Hoth Rebel Rifle was issued with the Rebel Commander and Luke Hoth figures. It was also included in the Survival Kit pack and the AT-AT accessory pack.

The V2 appears to be a sharper sculpt than the V1. The surface is painted blue and when scratched reveals a white plastic underneath.

The V4 comes with an EPM below the scope. Small differences can be seen around the scope area and main handle compared to the V1 which this version is similar to.

Imperial Hoth Rifle Glasslite Vlix Original Black Rifle.

The Glasslite Vlix Black rifle appears to be the same as the V3 Imperial Hoth Blue rifle. This rifle floats when placed on water but will sink when pressure is applied.

Vlix Rifle REPRO Mark Poon 1st Version.

The Mark Poon 1st version repro Vlix rifle will float when placed on water and sink when pressure is applied. 

The Poon repro is pictured on top, original on bottom.

DIFFERENCES:
Compared to the original Glasslite counterpart, the Poon repro Vlix Rifle is:
 
- Less shiny
- Missing the two flash marks on the top of the rifle
- Shorter in length
- Has a visable crack line on the rifle butt
- Has part of the butt missing
- Is misshaped when viewed from above

Vlix Rifle REPRO Mark Poon 2nd Version 2015.

The 2nd Poon Repro Vlix rifle is a different mould compared to the first. The rifle is closer to the size of an original and has sharper details. The plastic is semi-pliable but more rigid than an original. This repro, like the earlier V1, will sink when placed in water.

Jann Tosh Original Rifle (Droids Series)

The Jann Tosh rifle comes from the Droids series and appears to be an IG-88 V1 rifle moulded in Black.

Imperial Hoth Rifle Original YPS Snowtrooper Variant

YPS Snowtrooper Variant. This variant was issued with a free figure inside the German comic YPS as a giveaway. The rifle is actually a G.I. Joe weapon.

Moulded in stiff, hard plastic. Unpainted. Just like the painted V1 above, the pattern on the handle grip highlighted in the pic below only comes up to a certain point, whereas the pattern on an original extends higher. This repro sinks.
